Chapter 184 Escape Plan
Aiden earnestly said, “Great-Grandpa took me to see Grandpa and said he lives in that photo. It’s so scary…”
Amanda’s expression went complex. Why would Howard say such things to a little child? Aiden is only three years old and doesn’t understand the concept of death yet, only finding it terrifying.
She handed the milk bottle to the kid. “Good boy, drink your milk.” Then, she walked toward the terrace as well.
On the terrace, Elias could not bear it any longer. He dialed Howard’s number once again, and when the call connected, he did not wait for the other person to speak and started yelling, “Howard Winters, what are you trying to do? Why are you telling a three-year-old child all that nonsense? Are you trying to scare the child and make him sick?”
He called out Howard’s full name directly, something he had never done before.
Howard, on the other end, was taken aback. After a long pause, he shouted back into the phone, “You little brat, have you grown tired of living?! How dare you address me by my full name! Is it even your place to do that?!”
Even he did not expect that his grandson would one day address him by his full name. That left him. stunned for a while.
“Well, don’t you think you’ve gone too far? Children are naturally timid. Why would you scare him like that?!” Elias was genuinely angry. Previously, he believed it was for his good no matter what Howard did, but now, he was furious.
“Am I scaring him by introducing him to his grandpa? Shouldn’t he know who his grandfather is?”
Elias listened to Howard’s stubborn tone over the phone and decided to hang up. There was simply no way to communicate. He could not let the child go to Howard’s place anymore. Otherwise, that man would occasionally instill strange thoughts in the child and scare him half to death.
Since it was quiet there, Amanda, who had come to the terrace, overheard the conversation. She realized how frightening Howard could be when he became stubborn. If this continued, she feared that he might kidnap Aiden one day. Next time, she might not be so fortunate to find her baby again.
Her fingers clenched tightly by her sides, and a sudden thought emerged. I need to escape with Aiden. She regretted bringing him back to the country. It would have been better to stay abroad, where the Winters Family knew nothing about the child’s existence. Then, they would not try to take him away from her.
Amanda stared at the man’s figure briefly before returning to the bedroom.
Meanwhile, Elias stood on the terrace, feeling frustrated. Amanda and the child might never return to me if things continue to be like this. Besides, how can I handle the relationship between them with Howard being so stubborn?
He lit a cigarette, holding it between his lips, and gazed into the distance, lost in thought.
Evening came, and Aiden gradually recovered and forgot about the ordeal with Howard. He soon resumed
his lively and energetic behavior. Meanwhile, an urgent matter occurred at the company, requiring Elias. “There’s something urgent at work. I have to leave. Call me if you need anything.”
Amanda nodded. “Yeah, sure.” However, in her heart, she was thinking about escaping abroad with her baby.
He noticed her calm expression and felt strange, unable to describe what it was exactly. He continued, “I may not be able to come over in the next couple of days. Call me if anything happens. And don’t leave the child alone for a moment. Don’t go to the kindergarten for now. Grandpa might try to snatch him away.”
Her heart skipped a beat, but she had already anticipated this. Howard would not give up easily. After all,
stay home the child was the bloodline of the Winters Family. “Yes, I understand. I’ll take a few days off and with him. Don’t worry.”
With that, he left with a sense of relief. However, he did not realize Amanda was already concocting an escape plan.
As soon as the door closed, the smile on her face vanished. She took out her phone and started booking plane tickets, not bearing another second and wanting to take her baby and leave.
If Howard tried to hide Aiden again, she might seriously have a mental breakdown.
Selina left the kitchen and asked, “Amanda, what do you want to eat tonight?” When she approached and saw Amanda booking a flight abroad, she was puzzled. Amanda, are you going on a business trip?”
“No, I want to escape from here with Aiden,” she replied without looking up, quickly tapping the screen with her fingertips to book two plane tickets.
“What? What do you mean?” Selina asked, confused.
Amanda looked at her and said, “Selina, I might need to bring Aiden and settle abroad. Please forgive me for not disclosing the reason, but I must leave.”
Selina was at a loss for how to react. She did not ask for a reason, although she felt a bit reluctant. “Well, I believe you have reasons for doing this, just like me divorcing. However, are you sure you can leave? 1 feel like your ex-husband won’t agree to let you go, especially with the child.” She expressed her concern.
That was precisely what Amanda was worried about. She smiled lightly and said, “That’s why I said. ‘escape. Remember not to tell anyone. Otherwise, I won’t be able to get away.”
She felt that her chances of successfully escaping were slim by using this way. However, she had to give it a try. What if it worked?
“In that case, you must be careful.” Selina could not help but worry.
She smiled and said, “I’ll also need your cooperation. Otherwise, Elias will soon notice something amiss. Although he has a hot temper, he’s meticulous. He can sense even the slightest hint of abnormality.”
“Of course. You helped me out of a difficult situation back then, so I’ll do my best to assist you,” Selina replied.
For the next two days. Elias was busy with company matters and back-to-back meetings that kept him occupied without a break. Whenever he had a moment, though, he would call Amanda to inquire about their well-being.
Hearing her and the little brat’s voices was the only thing that could relieve his exhaustion and allow him to work with peace of mind.
Natasha approached him inside the meeting room, holding a stack of documents. “Mr. Winters, here are the documents for this meeting. Your eyes look a bit red. Did you not get enough rest? Do you need-”
Before she could finish her sentence, the man’s voice turned stern. “Lazarus only had you play a role. There’s no need to take it so seriously. Amanda isn’t here these days, so you can take a break.”
He regarded this lady as a hired actress paid by Lazarus to do her job, but he did not consider that she had ulterior motives.
For a moment, Natasha was startled. She nodded and said, “Alright.”
She left the meeting room, and he let out a sneer as he watched her slender figure walk away. Lazarus sent this lady to test me as well. Right? Haha… How naive.
She sprinted down the stairs but suddenly remembered her pregnancy and slowed down. Clutching the test strip in her hand, she wondered what Elias Winters' reaction would be once he heard the news.
Yet, when Amanda was halfway down the stairs, she saw two figures in the living room—Elias and a sexy woman. Slowing down her steps, she held the handrail tightly and felt her heart sink. That was because she saw her husband and the woman behaving affectionately as though they were a smitten couple.
