Charlie looked back and saw her coming, squinting his eyes slightly and waiting for her to approach.
Emily’s heart was pounding, and her hands were shaking nervously. “Mr. James, here’s a toast to you!” Charlie noticed her face was off and said softly. “Are you feeling unwell?”
Emily shook her head blankly
Charlie took the wine from her hand, looking at her intently “If you’re not feeling well, don’t drink. I’ll drink this for both of us – With that, he raised his glass to his lips
consider it your toast to me.”
“Charlie” Emily murmured, trying to stop him, but her arm seemed filled with lead, unable to move an inch. She could only watch helplessly as Charlie downed the whole glass
Charlie drank the wine in her glass, then his own, and whispered in a low voice that only the two of them could hear, “Have something to eat, and I’ll take you home later”
Emily’s eyes filled with tears, and she suddenly felt like crying. She didn’t dare look at him and turned back to her seat
Sitting down, Emily felt even more uneasy. The drug was given to her by Noreen, and she didn’t know when it would take effect or how Charlie would react
She was fidgety, and even her colleagues next to her noticed her change. They asked with concern, “Emily, what’s wrong?”
Tm fine Emily shook her head, catching a glimpse of Charlie looking her way. She looked back instinctively, meeting his gaze. She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but Charlie’s eyes seemed less clear than before.
She took a deep breath and told her colleague, “I’m just gonna step outside for a sec
“Alright, be careful,” her colleague said wornedly
Emily got up and walked out. As she left the room, she leaned against the wall, her heart pounding
Charlie watched Emily’s retreating figure, warried and irritable, feeling a strange sensation rise within him.
Someone came to toast him, and after one drink, a flush of heat rushed through him from his arms and legs.
He was experienced enough to know what was happening
He stood up, maintaining his poise and elegance despite the intense feelings coursing through him. “I have some business to attend to. You all continue to eat After the meal, Mr. Shenill will take you all to Midnight Bar for some more fun. The company will cover all expenses.”
Everyone tried to hide their excitement as they stood up, respectfully saying goodbye to Charlie
Charlie walked out of the room, sweat dripping down his face. He looked up to see Emily standing a few meters away in the hallway.
In the dim wall lights, Emily stood there, quietly watching him
Charlie approached her slowly, supporting himself against the wall while looming over Emily. He stared at her. “Emily, what did you give me?”

Charlie let out a low, muffled groan, leaning towards Emily
Emily immediately held him, supporting his weight with her body
At this moment, Emily seemed much calmer. She held him tightly, her chin on his shoulder, whispering. “Charlie, I’m sorry.”
“Emily” Charlie clenched his fist, trying to stay calm
“Come with me, please? She gently suggested, half–supporting Charlie and pressing the elevator button.
Her voice was like a spell to Charlie, who leaned against her and followed her into the elevator.
As Emily held him, she remembered when they first met he had a concussion from her punch, and she had to support him like this every day. Now he had entrusted himself to her once again.
It seemed that their relationship was destined to begin with intimacy and end with it too.
