Chapter 2

Before she could think further, Zelda felt more pain around her wrist.

He was awake.

“Let me go, you jerk!”

“What did you say?” Jack knitted his brows and pulled a long face.

The heavy makeup on Zelda’s face had been smudged. It was hard to tell how many cosmetic products she had used. Her face couldn’t be recognized at all.

“I’m not a rich woman. You’ve got the wrong person!” The grip on her hand wasn’t loosened at all. Obviously, Jack did not want to let her go.

He was really persistent.

She took out 40 dollars and threw it at him. “Tough luck. Is this enough? Let me go!”

Zelda only felt that Jack darted a cold glance at her.

Could it be that he thought the money was not enough?

Yet, she could not afford to pay more.

Zelda didn’t want to stay there anymore. She was in a quandary. In the end, she bit Jack’s arm very hard and ran away. She didn’t realize that it was her home until she got out of the door.

However, she didn’t want to throw herself into danger. After thinking back and forth, she called the police.

In the house, Jack, with his deep eyes, glanced at the shirt on the bedside and took his phone from his pocket. He made a phone call.

Shortly, Thomas Woodie, Jack’s assistant, arrived in a hurry. Seeing the messy house and Jack’s gloomy face, he understood everything at once.

“Mr. Fred, did you… fall into the trap?” Thomas had always stayed with Jack. He had heard of things like that in the business world.

Yet, the news that Jack returned home wasn’t disclosed to anyone. He went to the bar because of his friend’s invitation. Never did he expect that someone would spike his wine with drugs.

Jack stared at the 40 dollars in his hand.

“Get rid of the one who drugged me. And find… the owner of this house. Bring her to the Fred family.”

“Okay.”

Dressed neatly, Jack got out with firm and steady footsteps. His back looked sturdy and straight.

Jack was back to get a divorce. Three years ago, Old Mr. Fred set him up with a woman and even got the marriage certificate for him without his consent.

The marriage lasted three years. They didn’t love each other. Jack didn’t even know who the woman was. Originally, he meant to get a divorce simply because he wanted to be single.

But at that moment, he changed his mind.

He stared at the red stain on the sheet.

He had claimed to be responsible for her.

Then, he would be responsible for her.

While Zelda was hiding, she saw that Jack had gotten a helper. Fortunately, she didn’t throw up roadblocks.

She saw them leave and locked the door.

The police wouldn’t let them go.

Her phone in her pocket kept ringing.

Zelda rushed back to the Fred family and took a shower quickly. She removed the heavy makeup from her face. When she was working at the bar, she would wear makeup to make herself look very ugly for the sake of her safety.

No one could recognize her, and it could avoid a lot of trouble.

Unexpectedly, the gigolo would…

At that moment, Nancy knocked on the door and said that Jack was coming back.

Zelda had never seen Jack’s photo. She had only heard of him from Nancy and Old Mr. Fred. Nancy said he was quite handsome.

Old Mr. Fred said Jack was bad-tempered and unfilial with no merits but a handsome face.

Zelda kept thinking about other people’s descriptions of Jack and had butterflies in her stomach. God knew how perturbed she was when she learned about those facts.

Yet, it was she who agreed to marry Jack. Regardless, she had to bear the consequences on her own.

A while later, a tall and sturdy figure walked inside through the gate.

Wearing a black suit, a tall and straight man was approaching from afar. He was not old and looked fine. He was more or less the same as she had imagined.

Zelda thought the man was Jack and hastened to get up, saying with a smile, “Mr. Fred…”

“Mrs. Fred, Mr. Fred asked me to bring you something.”

Zelda stopped talking, and the smile on her face instantly froze.

The lawyer took out a stack of papers from his bag and handed it to her. He said, “Mrs. Fred, this is the divorce agreement. You and Mr. Fred didn’t get married voluntarily. Now that you’ve been separated for 3 years, even if we sue you for divorce, the judge will still… Of course, Mr. Fred will not treat you badly. He’ll give you what you deserve to get.”

Divorce?

So, Jack came back to get a divorce?

Zelda, who was originally nervous, let out a sigh of relief right away.

That did save her quite some trouble.

“If you’re not satisfied with this, you may name your terms.”

At the moment, the man standing at the door was as bright as a star.

Zelda stared at the chiseled face for a few seconds. Her astonishment was beyond words.
