Lundy started to speak, “About this whole thing, it’s been bugging me for years. To be honest, I’ve never even met this Julia person. But back then, my greed got the better of me and I made a terrible mistake. I wanted that huge sum of money. The deal was for me to handle a large amount of funds discretely, through bank procedures. To put it bluntly, it was money laundering. I secretly went through with it, never imagining that I was digging my own grave.” 

“So, you’re saying you’ve never met my mother, who gave you the money then?” 

“All the operations were managed by my secretary at the time. But after the shit hit the fan, he vanished without a trace. He’s still missing, which only makes me think this was a trap, expertly laid out for me. But I have no idea if the target was me or Julia.” 

Agnes had already guessed as much, she figured this was all Alyssa’s doing.. 

Even Tim knew, only the Whitfield family had the clout to get away with it. Despite maný suspicions, no one dared to dig in, 

But over the years, Agnes had found new leads. 

Especially through Alicia, Agnes knew Laura and her father were also involved. 

If Laura was involved, things got even more complicated. 

Agnes asked, “Did you ever hear about a woman named Laura?” 

Lundy shook his head, “Doesn’t ring a bell.” 

Agnes fell into deep thought. 

Lundy said, “What’s done is done. I’ve paid a high price for my past actions. Now that I’m outta jail, I just wanna live–a–quiet life for what’s left of it. Whoever you are, I’ve said all I’ve got to say. I hope you won’t bother me again.” 

With that, Lundy, holding his dog, was about to leave. 

Agnes said, “If someone deliberately set you up, making you serve fifteen years in prison, can you really just accept it? Don’t you want to know who it was? He might be living the high life now, without having to pay for any price. Even though you made a mistake, without someone setting you up, you wouldn’t have wasted most of your life in jail.” 

Something Agnes said struck a chord with Lundy. He turned around and said, “If you want to uncover the truth, I won’t stand in your way. I still have the old deposit receipts. The money was transferred to a Swiss bank account and was later frozen. But there was also a half a million that was never accounted for. If no one claims this money, according to Swiss law, anyone can claim it after twenty years, as long as they have the original deposit receipt. The sum will be adjusted -according to the exchange rate and interest. But this money must be claimed within a certain time frame after the twenty years, and the information must remain confidential, otherwise, it’ll be returned and the identity of the original account holder will be revealed. If this old case is reopened, it could be very dangerous. The person who set the trap wouldn’t be that dumb. They’ll surely claim the money within that time frame.” 

Agnes got the gist of what Lundy was saying. 

Lundy put it plainly, “In other words, whoever made the original deposit must still have the receipt from the Swiss bank. Whoever has the receipt for the half a million is the mastermind.” 

Agnes was surprised by this unexpected windfall. 

Things just got a whole lot simpler. 

For the past four years, Agnes had been suspecting that Laura was also involved in the past incident, or at least pulled some strings behind the scenes. 

Now, if she could just figure out whether the deposit receipt was with Laura or Alyssa, everything would be crystal clear.
