Swiftly dabbing her eyes with a tissue, Agnes tried to compose herself. Tm sorry: she began, forcing a smile. “This burger just…it reminds me so much of how my mom used to make them” 

Albert’s expression softened, noticing her distress. “You must miss your mom Being away on set can be hard, especially for someone as young as you. If you’re feeling homesick, maybe give her a call? I bet she misses hearing from you” 

Overwhelmed by emotion, Agnes’s tears flowed freely wish I could call her the choked out, “but she’s no longer with us. 

Seeing this, Albert was also moved and let out a sigh, “Poor kid, what about your dad? 

“My dad my dad is at home, but I don’t know what to say to him” 

Thinking about Preston, Agnes felt a whirlwind of emotions. 

She used to have a happy family and a cheerful childhood. 

She loved her dad deeply, thinking he was a hero, a super dad 

But then a lot happened 

Plus, the arrival of Ms. Laura and Beatrice. 

Agnes felt increasingly distant from the dad she remembered 

Deep down, she knew Preston felt guilty and wanted to mend their father-daughter relationship. 

But, she was still harboning resentment, resentment for his betrayal of her mom. 

Now, knowing there might be more to her mom’s death. 

Her feelings for Preston became even more complicated. 

Beatrice claimed, she overheard the words during a fight between Laura and Preston 

If it was true, then Preston must’ve known there might be a connection between her mom’s death and the Whitfield family. 

Agnes tried to process the sudden revelation, her thoughts jumbled. Why hadn’t Albert shared this sooner? 

Albert sighed. “You might as well see me as your godfather then. If ever you’re in a bind, don’t hesitate to reach out.” 

Caught off guard, Agnes could only stare 

Seeing her surprise, Albert held out an aged bracelet to her. “It might not look like much, but it’s been with me for years. Take it. I hope it offers you protection.” The unexpected gesture only deepened Agnes’s bewilderment. Their conversation had been so casual, so why this sudden offer of a godfather bond? 

Albert, noting her perplexed look, chuckled, “I can see the gears turning in your head Thinking I’m some odd old man with hidden intentions?” 

Hastily. Agnes responded, “No, not in the least.” 

Deep down, she knew Albert was no ordinary restaurant owner. His establishment only operated for a few weeks each year, a mere pastime for him. The patrons of his restaurant, cloaked in designer attire and shielded behind sunglasses, exuded an aura of authority. And the constant presence of luxury vehicles outside the modest eatery spoke volumes of his stature. 

There was something about Albert that made Agnes feel he was like a reclusive sage 

Agnes just particularly liked the taste of the food here, so she often came 

But she never thought she would have any connection with this seemingly mysterious man. 

Albert laughed and said, “Don’t worry, I have no other intentions. I just believe in fate. The moment I saw you, I felt a connection. I’m all alone, no kids. I was thinking, if I had gotten married and had kids, my daughter would probably be around your age now” 

With these words, Albert seemed a bit melancholic.
