Chapter 414
Emily felt a little uneasy with an extra person watching her from behind. “I’m not very good at playing, I’m afraid I might weigh you down.”
Carson immediately showed a touched expression and patted his chest. “This is the first time someone has cared for me like this. Girl, you’re really too kind!”
Emily stared at him dumbfounded.
Charlie glanced at him and said to Emily, “Don’t listen to his nonsense. He’s said this to more than twenty other girls!”
Everyone at the table laughed, and Carson sighed. “Charlie, we’re both the same, can we stop making fun of each other?”
Charlie sneered, “Who’s the same as you? I’ve never said anything so disgusting!”
The others laughed even harder, and even Estelle’s eyes were bent with laughter.
Charlie took the opportunity to take a photo with his phone and sent it to Jonathan. “Can’t you see how happy we are? Are you sure you don’t want to join?”
In the photo, everyone was laughing. Estelle was sitting by the window, the blooming wisteria outside casting a glow on her. Her profile was delicate, her eyes slightly curved, and her smile was pure and lively.
Jonathan didn’t reply, so Charlie put his phone aside and started to play cards.
They were playing a game called Bereaved Poker, where the loser gets a turtle stamp on their forehead.
Emily really didn’t know how to play, fumbling with the cards in her hand. Carson leaned over to help her arrange the cards and taught her a few tricks.
Emily was focused, and didn’t notice the two of them getting closer.
Charlie glanced at them and didn’t say anything.
Emily was the first one to lose the round. Charlie laughed, “Carson, If it wasn’t for your meddling, Emily wouldn’t have lost so badly. Go bother Josiah and the others instead, stop messing around here!”
Carson let Yvonne stamp the turtle on his forehead, looking determined. “Today, I’ll keep this mark right here, not just for my own pride, but also for my dearest Emily’s!”
Emily looked at the turtle on his forehead and tried not to laugh. “It’s not your fault, I’m just a slow
learner.”
“Winning early doesn’t count. The sweetest victory is the one at the end, keep it up!” Carson stretched out his hand to Emily.
Emily high–fived him and showed her a smile, “Keep it up!”
Charlie reached for a cigarette, but remembering all the girls at the table, he resisted the urge to light it up.
After a few rounds of Carson’s hands–on teaching, Emily gradually got the hang of it, and Estelle started to lose instead.
Yvonne deliberately stamped the turtle on Estelle’s cheek, and after two rounds, Estelle’s cheeks had a turtle on each side. Emily sat across from her, unable to look at her without wanting to laugh. Charlie took out his phone and aimed it at Estelle, suddenly shouting, “Estelle, look at me!”
Estelle was staring at her cards and suddenly looked up. Her bewildered expression was perfectly captured by Charlie’s camera, along with the turtles on her cheeks. She looked adorably clueless, nothing like her usual calm, cool demeanor.
Yvonne glanced over and smiled faintly. “Why are you taking pictures of Estelle?”
Charlie took snaps of Yvonne and Emily too and casually replied, “For memories!”
Estelle laughed, “You should wait until there are turtles on your faces too before taking photos for memories.”
“No problem, let’s see who ends up with the most turtles on their face.” Charlie continued to deal cards, casually sending the photo he took of Estelle to Jonathan.
“Estelle lost pretty bad, I can’t even bear it!”
This time Jonathan quickly replied. “You said you’d treat Estelle like a younger sister, help her anytime. Is this what you call helping?”
Charlie, “I’m barely holding on myself, I asked Carson to look after her.”
Jonathan didn’t reply anymore.
