Garrison’s face turned pale, not really understanding why Charlie was upset, but immediately put on an apologetic smile, “Yeah, I had a few drinks and I wasn’t thinking straight. Charlie, please forgive my impolite behavior!”
At this time, Mamie, who had just received Susan’s message, came in and cautiously asked, “What happened?”
After she finished speaking, she noticed Charlie and was slightly surprised, “Mr. James, you’re here too!”
“Yep, Mr. Ladd invited me,” Charlie said casually.
Mamie turned to Garrison and said, “Estelle is new here. If she did something to offend you, please don’t hold it against her, Mr. Ladd.” Seeing that Charlie was supporting Estelle, Garrison didn’t dare to be picky and embarrassingly said, “no worries!”
Everyone else, witnessing Garrison got slapped by the new waitress and still not daring to say anything about it, they didn’t dare to speak either.
Charlie looked at Estelle,” come with me!”
Susan curiously gazed at Estelle. She had thought Estelle would be punished for causing a scene today by hitting Garrison. Unexpectedly, Charlie showed up and resolved the situation within no time.
Did Charlie know Estelle?
Estelle was also puzzled, as she didn’t know this Mr. James. Why did he want to help her?
Mamie gestured to Estelle, “Do as Mr. James says, hurry up and go.”
Estelle nodded slightly and followed Charlie out.
The two went to Room 8809. Charlie sat down with a gentle demeanor, “Ms. Macclain, please sit!”
After sitting down, Estelle thanked him, “Thank you!”
Charlie smiled faintly, “Never mind. How did you end up here?”
Estelle replied, “I started working here. Today’s my first day. Do you know me?”
Charlie chuckled, “I know Jonathan!”
Estelle suddenly remembered that on Manley’s birthday, Charlie seemed to have spoken with Jonathan outside the door.
Charlie took out a cigarette and asked Estelle, “Can I smoke?”
Estelle nodded, “Sure!”
Charlie lit the cigarette and took a drag, smilingly asked, “Does Jonathan know you’re here?”
Estelle replied, “No, he doesn’t.”
“Are you two still on bad terms? Because of Manley’s birthday?”
Estelle didn’t know the relationship between Charlie and Jonathan, so she decided not to say too much and remained silent.
Charlie asked her, “Do you like Manley?”
Estelle replied honestly, “No, I don’t.”
Charlie said, “Well, I advise you to stay away from Manley. He’s not a good person, and he never really get serious with any girls. Moreover, he and Jonathan have never gotten along, so if you get close to Manley, naturally Jonathan will be unhappy.”
Estelle looked at him with clear eyes and said softly, “Manley helped me, that’s why I agreed to help him with the cake. I didn’t know it was his birthday.”
Charlie thought for a moment and asked, “When you say he helped you, are you talking about Lucille?”
Estelle asked in surprise, “How did you know?”
Charlie smiled faintly, ‘our circle is not big, any news would pass through a few mouths and everyone would know. Lucille was sent abroad by Manley, but the person who helped you wasn’t just Manley.”
Estelle looked at him puzzled.
“After your incident, Jonathan found out it was Lucille who did it. He captured the person who robbed you and beat him up, he also locked up Lucille for seven days and nearly killed her!”
When Charlie saw the look of astonishment on Estelle’s face, he asked, “you didn’t know about this?”
Estelle shook her head, “No, I didn’t
Charlie sneered, “That’s just like Jonathan. He never admits to what he’s done and doesn’t know how to express himself well ”
“Well, since he didn’t say anything, you might as well pretend you don’t know. me.” Charlie gave a wry smile, “Do you want me to tell him you’re working here?”
