Emily habitually asked, “Did the Ferber family come to bother you again?”
“No!” Martin laughed and replied, “Don’t be so tense. Can’t we see each other if it’s not about someone else?”
Emily didn’t dare to look at Charlie and distantly said, Tm sorry, I might be busy tonight.”
“That’s okay. We can meet up another day.” Martin kindly said, “I won’t bother you anymore. Carry on with your work!”
“Alright, bye”
Emily hung up the phone and stood up straight, waiting for Charlie to speak.
Charlie was looking down at his documents, expressionless. After she put away her phone, he said in a business-as-usual tone,
“The TC Group is treating us tonight, come with me”
“Okay!”
Emily nodded, the perfect obedient assistant.
Charlie glanced at her again, “You can go now!”
“Okay”
Emily tumed around and walked out.
Back at her desk, Emily called Ms. Simmons to tell her she would be home late and asked her to keep an eye on Kya a bit longer. In case of emergencies, she could contact Estelle
Ms. Simmons laughed, “No problem, my daughter stays at school and my husband works outside. I’m alone at home too, so don’t worry and do your thing”
Emily thanked Ms. Simmons, put down her phone, and got back to work.

I mistook Tracy for you during our contract signing and thought how stunning Mr. James’ assistant was. But seeing you now, you’re even more breathtaking”
Emily, recognizing the flattery, offered a gracious smile in response.
A few seats away, Charlie heard Manuel’s words. He looked over at Emily, his face unreadable.
As everyone settled down, Manuel introduced Emily to Colin. With a chuckle, Colin saxl, “How did Mr. James manage to get such a radiant and skilled assistant?”
Charlie offered a subtle smile, “Colin, your secretary is quite impressive, too.”
Colin, never one to miss an opportunity, turned to his secretary and grinned, Tia, why don’t you offer a toast to Mr. James?”

She walked up to Charlie, gently smiled and said, “Ive always admired you, Mr. James Allow me to toast to you, and I hope you can take care of me in the future.”
“Of course” Charlie responded elegantly, then drank his glass of wine.
Colin immediately stood up and had his secretary sit next to Charlie
