Emily felt a bit uneasy and gave an awkward chuckle, “What’s your take on it?”
I’ve told them that’s not the case, but they won’t take my word for it. They think I’m siding with them, deliberately hiding the truth,” Martin shook his head, I’m just as clueless, to be honest.”
Emily took a sip of her lemonade and chuckled awkwardly, “Actually, someone else helped them, but the Ferber Family thought it was you. No big deal, as long as they stop bothering you!”
Martin nodded, “I’ve already turned down that medical equipment project. Do you think the Ferber Family will give you guys any trouble?”
“Even if they do come knocking, we can’t possibly meet all their demands unconditionally” Emily’s eyes were a bit frosty, she was completely fed up with the Ferber Family’s shameless behavior
Martin seemed to be pondering something, “Maybe I could talk to the hospital management, see if I can help them out.”
“No way!” Emily rejected firmly, “If you do that, we cant be friends anymore!”
After all, it wasn’t fair to drag innocent Martin into this mess.
Martin looked at her deeply, “Are you worried about me or just don’t want to cause me any trouble?”
Emily replied candidly, “Dr. Martin, you’ve been so attentive when taking care of my mom. I’m just grateful. There’s nothing beyond friendship. So of course, I don’t want our problems to cause you any trouble.”
Martin looked a bit disappointed. “Don’t you like me even a bit? Am I really that bad?”
Emily quickly shook her head, “No, it’s just I have too many problems of my own. I haven’t even thought about dating”
1 know about your issues, but to me, they’re not really issues, you’re just overthinking! Martin laughed, “You’re so well-educated and pretty. If you didn’t
have a kid, I probably would never dare to court you. Because you do, I feel there’s a glimmer of hope.”
Emily knew Martin was trying to console her and couldn’t help laughing. “Stop joking around, you’re so great, you’ll definitely find a better girl.”
“Are you rejecting me in a roundabout way?” Martin sighed.
Emily laughed even harder, Tm being serious!”
Just as she finished speaking, she saw someone enter the restaurant. She casually glanced that way, her smile suddenly frozen.
Charlie also happened to look over. His deep, stern gaze sent chills down her spine.
With just a fleeting glance, Charlie headed upstairs to a private room with Waters.
Martin noticed that Emily seemed to be stunned. He turned to look, and asked, “What are you staring at?”
Emily snapped back to reality, “Nothing”
The food was served, T’ve been here a few times with friends, the food is pretty good.”
He pointed at the steak, “Give it a try!”
Emily smiled and nodded, but she seemed distracted.
Upstairs in the private room, Waters opened a bottle of wine and poured a glass for Charlie. In the warm and romantic candlelight, she propped her face in one hand, her eyes full of admiration.
“Tell me honestly, have you been avoiding women these past two years because of me?”
Charlie, leisurely cutting into his steak, replied calmly, “No, you’ve got it all wrong”
1 don’t believe it!” Waters defiantly responded, “Ever since I appeared, there’s been no other woman in your life”
Charlie looked up, flashing a handsome smile, “You’re too self-absorbed, it’s not a good habit.”
A hint of embarrassment flashed across Waters face, she tried to laugh it off, “Alright, even if it’s not because of me, it’s not a big deal.”
Her eyes were even more captivating, eagerly gazing at him, “After dinner, how about we skip the bar and go to my place?”
