Chapter 1027 

Jonathan watched her bag, his gaze changing slightly. 

After tossing the bag aside, Estelle headed for the building. Hearing footsteps following her, she frowned, turning back to ask, “Mr. Lamont, anything else?” 

It was dusk now, and Jonathan’s handsome face was illuminated by a golden glow, making his features even more mesmerizing and profound. He raised an eyebrow slightly, “Aren’t you going to invite me up?” 

“Sorry, it’s not a good time.” 

Jonathan raised his eyebrows slightly, “Can I as a parent discuss Henson’s studies with you?” 

Spotting the teasing in the man’s eyes, Estelle’s bright eyes narrowed slightly, then she nodded, “Alright, come on up.” 

Jonathan gave a smug smile and followed Estelle towards the stairs. 

The two entered the elevator, Jonathan took the initiative to press the floor button. Feeling the scrutinizing gaze from behind, he couldn’t help but laugh again. 

Just as the elevator doors were closing, a woman ran over shouting, “Wait, wait!” 

Jonathan pressed the button to open the elevator doors, letting the woman in. 

Unexpectedly, the woman was leading a dog. The dog got into the elevator before she did and lunged towards Estelle. 

Estelle’s face turned pale, and she immediately retreated.. 

Jonathan was standing right behind her. He extended his arm to pull her into his arms, his eyes instantly cooled down, and he said to the woman with the dog, “Can you control your dog!” 

The woman was taken aback by Jonathan’s dominance. She awkwardly said, “My dog doesn’t bite!” 

“But it scared my wife!” Jonathan’s voice dropped coldly. 

The woman quickly pulled the dog back and dared not make a sound. 

In the narrow space, even though the dog was no longer moving, Estelle’s body was still tense, she dared not move. 

Jonathan turned her around in his arms, one hand on her shoulder, the other around her waist, fully protecting her. 

Later, Jonathan checked Estelle’s past and realized why she was so scared of dogs. 

When she was a toddler, she was locked outside by her adoptive parents for soiling her clothes during a meal. Coincidentally, two dogs from the neighbor’s house broke their chains and ran out. She was cornered by the two dogs and got bitten relentlessly. Her parents were having dinner in the yard and ignored her heart–wrenching cries. 

In the end, a neighbor came out and chased away the two dogs. Seeing her covered in blood, with deep wounds showing bone, he immediately took her to the hospital. 

Her adoptive parents, however, took the opportunity to extort a thousand bucks from the dog–owning neighbor. 

From then on, she had an instinctive fear of dogs. Even when she became powerful, even when she could keep a straight face while killing, the mere sight of a dog, even a harmless little one, would trigger her anxiety and fear. 

This experience was recorded in her autism treatment file. 

When Jonathan read this, he couldn’t imagine the fear a small child would have faced against two ferocious dogs. What made her even more desperate was that her parents were just on the other side of the wall, listening to her screams, but no one came to help her. 

She must have felt so desperate! 

Perhaps her disbelief in others started from that moment. From then on, she no longer felt safe in her life. 

Jonathan suddenly felt a wave of oppression and couldn’t help but hold her tighter, pressing her close against his chest, and whispering in her ear, “Don’t be scared, 

I’m here.”
