Chapter 797
When Maja visited Leo’s hospital room for the second time, she unexpectedly bumped into some folks delivering a check, with a lawyer leading the pack.
She had seen this lawyer a long time ago when he came to deliver her divorce papers.
They must be lan’s people. But why would lan’s people show up in Leo’s hospital room?
The lawyer approached Leo’s bedside; explaining the importance of the matter. In a nutshell, he was saying not to call the cops and that things could be taken care of financially.
“Mr. Elston, here’s thirty grand. We hope you can keep this under wraps.”
Leo was out of it. He was hiding under his blanket at the sight of strangers.
He didn’t even know what a check was. He just wanted to hide, fearing his other leg would get chopped off too.
Maja watched it all from the sidelines and got the picture,
The deed was indeed done by the Raymond family, but now they wanted to just pay him off?!
She flashed a cold smile, “Whose name is on this check?“”
The lawyer seemed to notice her only then and answered truthfully, “Mr. Raymond.”
Maja wasn’t surprised. After all, it was totally something someone like lan.could do.
She took the check, ripped it to pieces, and flung it right at the lawyer’s face.
“Who chopped off my cousin’s leg?”
The lawyer didn’t answer. The only reason they decided to handle this was because there were surveillance cameras. If there weren’t any cameras at the scene, they wouldn’t have bothered.
They’d just let Leo suffer in silent agony. He had no proof anyway.
“Ms. Pennyfeather, it was Ms. Connie. Her emotions have been unstable recently.”
Maja fell silent at the mention of Connie.
What happened back at Solstice Spire had made Connie hate her through and through.
Although she felt guilty, there was no reason for Connie to treat Leo like this.
“Since you’re all here, it means there must have been surveillance there.”
The lawyer didn’t reply.
Maja sat down, “I’m going to use these pieces of evidence to sue Connie.”
As soon as she finished, the lawyer quickly retorted, “It was the bodyguard who did it. Even if you sue Ms. Connie, it’ll be of no use. In the end, it’ll be the bodyguard
who takes the fall.”
Maja felt sick to her stomach. She’d had enough of these people’s high and mighty attitudes.
“Fine, go tell lan that if he wants to compensate him, make it two million!”
The lawyer didn’t respond. Once he left the corridor, he immediately dialed lan.
“Mr. Raymond, they’re demanding two million in compensation.”
A chill flashed in lan’s eyes, “Tell them not to get too greedy, or they won’t be able to handle the consequences.”
After hanging up, the lawyer relayed lan’s words.
Maja was so angry that she almost started laughing, “Alright, then there’s nothing left to discuss.”
“Ms. Pennyfeather, I hope you reconsider.”
The lawyer left after saying his piece. The torn check was the only thing left behind.
Maja looked pale. After hearing sobs from under the blanket, she asked worriedly, “Leo, what’s wrong?”
Leo finally came to, realizing that he had lost his leg.
“Maja, my leg’s gone… my leg’s gone.”
The chaos in his mind after losing a leg was weighing heavily on him; his only support was to find Maja and tell her what happened.
“They barged into our house at night and showed no mercy. They were looking for something. My parents were killed, and Olivia was killed too. I escaped. They kept asking me where the relic was. We didn’t know.”
Maja said, “Slow down; I didn’t catch that.”
Then Maja poured him a glass of water.
Lèo took a sip of water as his fingers trembled.
“They said it was a holy relic, and Lillian was the lost holy maiden. They mentioned a seal. They said Lillian mentioned where this thing was hidden.”
Maja caught onto the most crucial piece of information.
Lillian revealed the hiding place of the relic.
But how did those people know the seal was in that room when Lillian only told her?
Maja asked, “Is my mom still alive?”
She habitually referred to Lillian as her mom, but Leo shook his head.
“I don’t know; I only heard that. Holy relic… holy maiden. They were like madmen, killing anyone they saw. They must be a cult!” Leo continued, “Maja, I’m crippled now. I can’t walk. My leg…”
Now that he was sober, the shock of losing a leg was magnified.
Leo finally said what he had wanted to tell Maja, which was the reason he had held on until now.
Now that he had finally told Maja in person, his mission was complete.
