On the alley, he saw something by the road sparkling, shining so brightly.
He walked over, squatted down, and picked up the object. It was a diamond–studded hairpin, clearly a woman’s accessory. It looked pretty pricey.
The maids of the Raymond family wouldn’t wear stuff like this. Could it be left by a lady from the banquet?
He stood up, having no recollection of the hairpin, but didn’t toss it away either.
That scene was witnessed by Selena, who recognized it as Maja’s hairpin.
“lan, it may be left by a lady from the tea party. Give it to me, I’ll return it to her later.”
lan remained silent, just staring at the hairpin.
Just as Selena reached out to take it, he slowly asked, “Has Penny been here?“?
Selena was startled and her fingers trembled, “What Penny? I have no clue!” Her emotions have been unstable lately, easily amplified by slight stimulation.
lan instantly saw through her guilt, his face turned gloomy.
“This hairpin.”
Selena tried to snatch it, but lan put the hairpin into his suit pocket.
He had a strong intuition that this hairpin was indeed important.
“lan, why would you want a girl’s hairpin?”
Selena was a bit flustered.
lan didn’t explain, turned around and started walking away.
Selena wanted to catch up, but he suddenly stopped.
“I don’t care about your business with Dad, and you also shouldn’t meddle with mine.”
Selena’s face turned even more pale, filled with regret. She really wished he was the one who died, after all, Eric was much more obedient.
But now lan was her only son left. If her son was not close to her, she would have no chance with Steve.
“lan.”
Her voice softened, but lan just walked away.
Back home, he took out the hairpin to examine it.
Jeff walked in, surprised to see the hairpin. Wasn’t it Penny’s?
But Jeff didn’t know that it was lan who gave the hairpin to Penny.

lan had bought that as a gift for Maja when he passed by a mall, without telling anyone. He gave it to her during their private, intimate moments.
Jeff just saw Maja wearing it once, thinking lan was reminiscing about her, he expressed his concern,
“Boss, if you miss Penny so much, why don’t you give her a call?”
lan paused, only then realizing he was still holding the hairpin.
“No.”
He put the hairpin into the drawer, hearing Jeff say, “I always felt that Penny is not a frivolous woman, her eyes are clear.”
Even very firm. Otherwise, she would have made demands during the time she was tangled with lan.
But all the gifts were given out proactively by lan. Penny never asked for anything.
Unless she needed the boss‘ help, her purpose was always clear.
Jeff just realized; did Ms. Penny like the boss‘ power and not his wealth? Because the boss could solve other problems for her?
He thought he had unveiled the truth but dared not to tell lan.
Maja had been resting at Beck’s house for two days. When she first woke up, she just blankly stared at the ceiling.
Later, she finally felt hungry. But every time she saw something that was slightly long, she would get scared and immediately freeze up.
Her mind was still a mess, completely blank.
The doctor said she was overly scared.
That level of a dark room was usually used to interrogate serious criminals. Even the most vicious could only last three days, while Maja lasted more than one day. The fact that she hadn’t collapsed yet showed her strong will. Not to mention there were snakes and centipedes in there, two of the most feared creatures for most people.
Beck sat by the bed, handing her a bowl of porridge, encouraging her to eat,
“Have a little to eat.”
Maja took the porridge, lowered her head, and quietly ate.
Seeing her like that, Beck inexplicably felt a pang in his heart.
This was completely different from wanting to be close to the opposite sex. It felt like an emotion seeping out from his marrow.
