The kidnappers were down before they even knew what hit them.
Maja was standing next to lan, and she felt sick to her stomach watching the scene unfold.
She never thought she’d be caught up in something like this.
She always thought those cop movies were all smoke and mirrors. But now, it was clear as day that there was no such thing as a peaceful life. It was these guys in blue busting their butts in silence that kept them safe.
lan was briefing the cops, “There are about a dozen more on the first floor.”
No sooner had he said that than Maja wanted to check on the tattooed guy.
But before she could take a step, lan pulled her back.
“Watch it!”
In the elevator, the tattooed man, gasping for his last breath, let off a shot.
Maja was pushed to the ground by lan, and the bullet grazed his cheek, leaving a thin trail of blood.
Had it strayed just a bit, it would have been his head.
She sat on the floor, her mind a complete blank.
The police fired a barrage of shots, killing the man, and then flocked around lan.
“Mr. Raymond, are you okay?”
“Mr. Raymond.”
lan just looked at Maja, “You okay?”
Maja’s mind was still a mess. If lan hadn’t pushed her, the bullet would have hit her chest.
But now she was unharmed, and he had narrowly missed a bullet to the head.
She opened her mouth, but no words came out.
Jan must have been scared too, as he pulled her into his arms.
Maja’s fingers were trembling slightly, and she wanted to ask him why he did it. His life was clearly more important than hers.
But she knew if she asked, he’d just look at her with those deep eyes again.
She couldn’t figure lan out.
She didn’t understand what this man was thinking.
She let him lead her, watching as he spoke with the police.
A few of the cops stripped the dead men of their clothes, and a group of them disguised themselves as the kidnappers and took the elevator down.
A melee was about to erupt on the first floor, and lan was not part of it. He was in the surveillance room, tracking the kidnappers‘ movements.
Maja stood by him, listening to his calm commands, and was reminded of his bravery when he was just a teen.
Even if he wasn’t a businessman, lan would be a top–notch soldier.
From the surveillance feed, Maja saw the police heading out, and the hostages in the hall were still huddling in fear. No one dared to make a sound.
“Get down!”
A cop shouted. The hostages all fell to the floor, and the police aimed their guns at the remaining kidnappers.
Gunshots and screams filled the hall.
Maja watched on the monitor, her heart aching.
Those who experienced all this would probably remember this day forever.
The fight only lasted for ten seconds, then the gunshots stopped.
The kidnappers were all down.
Maja breathed a sigh of relief, feeling so weak in her knees, and she was about to collapse.
lan quickly held her up.
He remembered his first days in the military. Lots of greenhorns like him would get sick for days after witnessing bloodshed.
They had a mental health clinic there, and most rookies had problems at first.
But as time went on, they got used to it.
He held Maja, touched her forehead, and found she didn’t have a fever.
“I’ll take you out
Maja opened her mouth and suddenly remembered Connie.
“Connie is downstairs.”
Fighting back the nausea, she guided lan to the floor where Connie was.
She opened the door to the janitor’s closet in the bathroom.
But Connie, who should have been there, was gone.
Maja frowned, “I hid her here.”
The door to the closet was hard to open from the outside, and they shouldn’t have found her unless Connie ran out on her own.
Soon, Maja heard crying from another room in the hallway.
She quickly pushed open the door.
In the room, Connie was lying on a bunch of tables pushed together, and a man was doing things to her, spewing disgusting words.
lan reacted instantly, shooting the man dead.
Connie was a wreck. She quickly dressed herself and covered up when she saw lan.
Connie was so scared in the closet that she sneaked out.
But she didn’t have Maja’s abilities, she couldn’t stand up to the kidnappers.
They saw that she was pretty and dragged her into this room.
Her first time was stolen just like that.
She was furious at Maja; she had asked Maja to take her away, but Maja didn’t, and she ended up being violated.
