Chapter 629
“Shut up!”
Steve exuded an aura of authority.
Selena hunched her shoulders in fear, tears streaming down her face.
The hallway became heavy with tension. Steve’s disgust for Selena had reached a new level, even her tears seemed fake to him. His hand was shaking with anger. “I didn’t mean to.”
Selena was still apologizing. She knew she had messed up, but she loved Steve, and she didn’t want to divorce him. He was the man she loved the most.
Steve just closed his eyes in disgust, “Go cry somewhere else. Don’t make a scene here!”
Selena shut her mouth, her face pale.
The lights in the ER were still on, the heavy footsteps of the passing nurses made everything seem so heavy.
Holden couldn’t help but slam his cane in frustration,
“Absurd! This is absolutely absurd!”
The fact that such a thing could happen to the Raymond family was utterly ironic and absurd!
At that moment, Maja had arrived at the place where she agreed to meet Harden, but she felt uneasy.
She glanced at her phone, and there were no calls from lan. He should be having dinner with Selena and the Raymond–family tonight; nothing should go wrong. But as she was about to walk into the café, she received a call from Jeff.
“Penny, Mr. Raymond is in critical condition.”
Maja stopped in her tracks, thinking she must have heard wrong.
“Didn’t Mr. Raymond go to have dinner with his family?”
Jeff paused, then told her about Edith attacking lan with a chair.
Maja was taken aback.
Edith had attacked lan with a chair and now lan was in a critical condition?!
“Jeff, are you sure?”
Jeff’s eyes were red as he wiped the corner of his eyes.
“Mr. Raymond probably never thought that he would face such a situation when he came home. The doctor also said that he was drugged.”
Maja’s heart clenched, and she immediately turned around.
“Which hospital has he been admitted to?”
Jeff sent her the address of the hospital.
When Maja got in the car, she instructed her subordinates to investigate the leverage that Laura’s parents held over Harden, and to uncover the truth behind Harden and Meetman’s divorce..
Maja drove to the hospital at breakneck speed.
The hallway was nearly empty. The other members of the Raymond family were all eyeing the position of CEO of the Raymond Corporation. Holden couldn’t stand their pretense, so he had them all leave. Now only Holden, Steve, and a terrified Connie Raymond were left.
The sound of high heels approached as Maja ran in, drenched in sweat. Seeing Holden sitting in the corridor, she felt a pang of sadness.
That elderly man, who was already ill, was now keeping vigil for lan.
Jan had grown up with Holden, this incident was the most heartbreaking for Holden.
But at that moment, Holden sat silently, only calling out shakily when he saw Maja, “Maja!”
Maja immediately approached, holding his hand tightly, “Grandpa Holden.”
Holden gently patted the back of her hand; it wasn’t clear whether he was comforting her or himself.
Connie, who had been sitting by the side, looked surprised when she saw Maja. Why was Penny there? Why did Penny and Grandpa Holden seem so close?
But Maja had no time for anything else at that point.
“Grandpa Holden, don’t worry, lan will be fine.”
Steve, who was sitting nearby, glanced at Maja at that moment. He had never seen that woman before, so he closed his eyes again.
“Ahh Maja, what do you think of this? You shouldn’t have divorced lan, that kid just didn’t know how to appreciate.”
Upon hearing this, Connie’s eyes widened.
What was going on? Was Penny actually lan’s ex–wife, Maja?!
Connie felt her head spinning and chose to remain silent, but she was extremely troubled.
Since lan was still in surgery, Connie didn’t dare to ask those questions for the time being.
Maja was also waiting there, without hesitation, she put Harden aside for now.
It wasn’t until noon of the next day that lan was wheeled out. The lead surgeon, Phelps, looked somewhat weary.
