Day and night, a group of people stood firm outside the EverBest Group’s building.
Some folks brought them food, and there were even RVS parked nearby to provide them with basic necessities.
Reporters were on the scene broadcasting live, and it seemed like the EverBest Group was in a tight spot.
If the EverBest Group tried to shoo these people away, the consequences would be pretty severe.
So they had no choice but to send a representative to negotiate. This implied that everything these people were saying was true, especially since they had evidence to back it up.
They’ve waited ten years; they’ve got to have solid evidence.
The housing contracts and third–party inspection reports they brought were all legally binding.
Faced with these hard facts, the EverBest Group had no choice but to compensate.
Meanwhile, the negative press about the EverBest Group on the internet was piling up!
This time, the EverBest Group crossed a line with ordinary folks.
If they didn’t explode in silence, they’d perish in silence.
Carlene rushed to the Raymond Corporation; tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at lan, holding a notebook in her hand.
“lan, have you seen the news online? The EverBest Group’s in some hot water.”
lan knew about it; the news was all over the place.
Holden was involved too, but he didn’t tell lan because he had promised Maja not to interfere in their affairs.
The EverBest Group caused quite a stir online today; it was a big deal.
Just as Carlene was about to continue, lan’s phone rang. It was Fitch.
“lan, there is only a fifth of the draft paper left to scan. This one’s a bit more complex and is going to take some time. But I made a new discovery: Eric’s diary notebook is missing.”
“My brother didn’t keep a diary.”
“True, but Eric had tons of notebooks for jotting down random data. This one was bought in the last month, and the color of the inner shell is different from his usual style. So I guess he might have given this notebook to someone he knew. The top brass have finished organizing all of Eric’s belongings, and they’ve been tracking for years, but that notebook is nowhere to be found.”
lan hung his head, listening to Fitch’s addition.
“You could ask Carlene if Eric had given her anything like a notebook.”
After hanging up, he heard Carlene saying, “lan, can you help the Shepard family this time? I just remembered that Eric gave me something.”
lan leaned back in his chair, making sure Carlene hadn’t heard his phone call, then asked.
“What is it?”
“A notebook.”
Carlene said it casually because Eric Raymond had always been into research and was a real brainiac.
She guessed that lan’s obsession with what Eric left behind had to do with some sort of research.
This time, Carlene just got lucky, and Fitch’s call made her lie seem more real.
Her palms were sweaty, and she was scared to death.
She wanted to save the Shepard family and hoped the EverBest Group could pull through this crisis.
If the Shepard family went bankrupt, how much ridicule would she face?
Although Edith liked her, she hadn’t called her yet; she was obviously weighing the pros and cons.
Carlene was freaking out; she didn’t want to be tossed aside like trash.
“A notebook?”
lan repeated the word, looking at her.
Carlene went pale. She forced a smile and said, “I’ll admit I’ve been a bit selfish. I chose to hand over Eric’s gift now. After all, he’s gone; I don’t want to stir up trouble with his belongings.”
Currently, both Fitch and lan suspected Eric had feelings for Carlene, and

But since Eric had passed away and the only woman he’d been in contact with was Carlene, there was no way to verify her claim.
