After returning to RosenGarden, Herbert unleashed a torrent of anger at lan over the phone.
That bastard! I wish I could punch him right in the face! I’m so pissed off. You married him, and he acts like he’s the one who got the short end of the stick, running around with other women! You are my apprentice, when did it become their place to boss you around?”
Maja felt guilty. Her teacher had only hurriedly come to Greenfield for a day because of some business and had to suddenly return. He didn’t like public appearances, and now he had to face everyone because of her.
She hastily apologized when he fimshed speaking

Herbert was furious.
“What were you thinking? You were just going keep this to yourself?”
“I didn’t know.”
Herbert took a deep breath on the other end and asked, “What’s wrong with your voice? Have you been crying your eyes out?”
Maja coughed a couple of times and took some of the medicine she had just swallowed. Her throat was hurting.
“No, my throat just hurts.”
“Maja, do you like lan?”
Maja couldn’t answer.
Like him? That might be a stretch.
Maybe the tiny flutter in her heart was just because they had had the most intimate contact in the dark night. He was holding her so tight, as if he wanted to melt her into his body. Just thinking about it made her face blush and her heart beat faster.
Could that be considered liking him?
Probably not, as she had never wavered from her decision to divorce him.
Does lan like you?”
“No.”
This time, she answered quickly. After all, there was someone else in lan’s life, Carlene.
“Then you shouldn’t like him either. You deserve a man who only has eyes for you. lan might be a catch, but if he doesn’t belong to you, all his good qualities don’t mean squat.”

“You’ve always been independent–minded, so I won’t belabor the point. I’ll have a friend of mine restore the painting. Edith doesn’t deserve to own it. You should just hang it in your room.”
After hanging up, Maja felt emotionally drained.
She glanced at her neck in the bathroom mirror. The red, swollen marks were clearly visible.
She took a deep breath and heard her phone ring. It was a call from Selena.
Without a doubt, Selena was calling to give her a piece of her mind.
The Raymond family was in chaos right now. Edith was in the hospital, and the drama was pulling in more and more people.
Maja had certainly been impulsive this time, but Edith’s behavior was way out of line.

“She just about passes for human.”
This sent the group into another bout of laughter. Some even choked on their drinks.
Tyler just shrugged.
Only Fitch sat in the middle, ignoring everyone, a frown forming on his face.
