lan didn’t get a response from her, the warmth in his eyes gradually fading.
A few minutes later, Maja turned to look at him, her tone calm.
“Why would you say that?”
Despite the traces of his kisses on her face, her eyes were incredibly serene.
At that moment, lan was at a loss for words.
He frowned, not understanding why he said he wanted her to divorce. Then what? Was he supposed to take responsibility for her?
But everything she did with him, she had already done with her husband three years ago.
The thought of her intimate relationship with that man was too much for him to bear.
“Nathan isn’t good enough for you.”
“Mr. Raymond, you and I lead different lives. You grew up privileged. You don’t really like me. You’re just a tad bit curious about me. This might just be your interest in something new. If I give up my peaceful life because of your words, that would be irrational.”
lan stood outside, the air around them becoming silent.
After a long while, he withdrew his gaze nonchalantly, “You don’t think I like you, do you?”
Maja visibly sighed in relief, “It’s better if you don’t. Both of us know what we’re doing.”
lan’s gaze turned cold in an instant.
Maja smiled at him.
“Mr. Raymond, I really need to leave.”
With that, she stepped on the gas pedal.
Her demeanour was cold, completely concealing their recent intimate encounter.
After she left, lan stood there for a while, pulled out a cigarette, and lit it slowly.
His aura turned frosty as if the darkness around him was spreading over him.
He took a drag from his cigarette, chuckled lightly, and tossed it into a trash can, his eyes turning cold.
Maja didn’t really want to say all this to lan, but she was in a really bad mood.
Back at RosenGarden, she saw the half–meter–tall pile of documents at the entrance and couldn’t help but furrow her eyebrows.
She had already looked through the Pennyfeather group’s data from the past five years and was well aware of the company’s situation.
But she had never run a company, especially one that had pissed off lan.
Almost all orders had been blocked, and the Pennyfeather group could only survive by finding other clients.
But who could she turn to?
She chose Samuel Brown’s EliteEdge Consortium as her first target and Silverstone Enterprises as her second.
After setting these two targets, she started to consider another problem raised by Neil.
Finding Lillian’s biological daughter.
Before today, Maja had never doubted that she was Lillian’s real daughter, and Lillian had always been very loving towards her.
Before marrying Cristina, Neil also saw her as his precious gem, so he must have found this hard to accept now.
Maja was feeling terrible. Her world of over twenty years had been completely turned upside down.
The pressure was immense and something she had to bear.
This left her feeling breathless.
She didn’t even know who to talk to.
How could Lillian possibly not be her mother?
This was the hardest part for Maja to accept because during many painful days, it was the thought of Lillian that kept her going.
However, Lillian’s real daughter was suffering out there, possibly even dead, while she, a person of unknown background, was living without any guilt. What right did she have to miss Lillian?
If Lillian knew about this, she might not even rest in peace in heaven.
Maja suddenly felt an unbearable pain in her chest. The person she had let down the most was Lillian.
Lillian had protected her and taught her so many things.
Now, she didn’t even know how to face Lillian.
She was even scared to dream about Lillian tonight..
Meanwhile, at the Pennyfeather family, Neil couldn’t sleep.
His bedroom door was knocked on. It was Tricia.
As she was now Neil’s only daughter, she was even greedier than before.
“Now that Maja is not your real child, can’t we use her? And the marriage arrangement with lan, it should be me to fulfil it. You should accompany me to Raymond Mansion. We go find Holden, get lan and Maja to divorce, and then I marry him.”
Her eyes were filled with excitement.
Neil saw the greed in her eyes and felt disgusted.
“Get out.”
“What?”
“Get out!”
Tricia didn’t dare to say anything else and hurriedly left.
Neil sat on his bed, coughing violently. He swallowed two sleeping pills and managed to sleep for a while.
He dreamt of his deceased wife.
