lan Raymond didn’t respond and just kept his head down, fiddling with his cufflinks.
Those silver–blue cufflinks were a gift from Carlene Shepard.
Maja Pennyfeather heard the footsteps on the stairs and saw Carlene appear at the side, speaking softly.
“lan, come upstairs with me; I’m really worried.”
Having said that, Carlene finally noticed Maja, and her eyes immediately sharpened.
“What are you doing here?”
At this moment, the doctor who was treating Coco came over.
“Ms. Penny, please go upstairs. The surgery is expected to take forty minutes.”
Maja heaved a sigh of relief, feeling as if the previously cramped space had suddenly widened. She quickly nodded to lan and Carlene.
“I’ll head upstairs first then.”
Carlene didn’t say anything and just stared at her retreating figure. She was slightly uneasy about the hair she found. Whose hair was it?
Just now at the hotel, after lan’s meeting, she had tried to get close to him, but lan had said, “Carlene, remember that we haven’t gotten back together.”
Indeed, when she found out that lan was getting married, Carlene initiated the breakup.
Although he had tried to keep her twice, his attitude wasn’t passionate enough in her eyes, making her feel like she was being too -forward, so she didn’t agree.
For the next three years, neither of them contacted each other.

Although the scarf covered most of it, there were still some small traces that were not completely hidden behind her ear. Maja couldn’t see this spot, so she hadn’t noticed.
Carlene chuckled,”Ms. Penny, did you just come from home?”
Maja immediately became alert, “Yes.”
“I heard you got married; I couldn’t believe it. But it seems like you and your husband are doing quite well. Is the hickey on your neck from your husband?”
Carlene didn’t look at lan, so she didn’t notice that when she said this, lan’s steps slowed for a moment.
Maja felt very awkward.
If this hickey wasn’t left by ian, with Maja’s personality, she could respond to Carlene confidently.
After all, they weren’t on good terms, and her question was indeed a bit rude.
But this hickey was left by lan just two hours ago.
And Carlene was lan’s love and his future wife, which made Maja feel a bit uneasy.
But she appeared very calm on the surface.
“Yes.”
Carlene sighed in relief, and her gaze finally fell on lan. He must have heard their conversation just now.
