lan was staring at the table, not joining Carlene’s conversation.
Carlene cooed a bit, then said, “I’m off to a meeting.”
“All right, lan, you do your thing.”
After hanging up, Carlene’s attitude towards Maja became softer.
She shared the same thoughts as others; since she was already married, there was no way lan could have anything going on with this woman.
She figured Maja had already had a lot of cozy encounters with her husband; a picky man wouldn’t possibly accept this kind of woman.

Carlene nodded and started walking out, “Do as I say. Also, I like cloisonné tiles. I want the walls and floors decorated with whole pieces; it’s all the rage abroad.”
Maja frowned. Cloisonné was currently the most expensive stone; a piece could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The blue color was indeed beautiful, referred to as enchanting blue by designers, similar to the boundless sky and stars.
Mansions often use this stone. Maja’s designs also have this material, but not entirely; otherwise, they would appear too ostentatious, losing the low–key elegance.
“Ms. Shepard, cloisonné is one of my design options, but it’s unsuitable for flooring.”
Carlene frowned, obviously unhappy with being interrupted.
“Did you forget what I just said? This house is for me to live in; the design should follow my liking; lan has already agreed; what’s your problem?”
Maja took a deep breath, chuckled, and said, “Because this isn’t Mr. Raymond’s style, flooring entirely with cloisonné isn’t attractive, it will just look over the top.”
Maja thought Carlene just wanted a pet park; she could live with that. But Carlene demanded the entire floor to be cloisonné, that was entirely opposite to her design philosophy. All the designs would have to be changed!
And such a design was too tacky. Since lan had high standards for art, he wouldn’t like this sort of luxury built by piling expensive stone.
“Ms. Shepard, if you insist on using cloisonné, I will discuss it with Mr. Raymond and request a change of designer.”
Otherwise, creating something entirely based on Carlene’s ideas would ruin Maja’s reputation.
Carlene’s eyes flashed with amusement; this was exactly her goal.
She wanted Maja to stay away from lan. Even if she was married, no way, Maja was too attractive.
“All right, you go and talk to lan. I happen to know a few famous designers who can take your place.”
Maja nodded slightly and strode out without saying more.
Carlene stood still, the admiring gaze from Dana at her side.
“You’re really something; got her to back off with just a few words!”
Carlene moved a strand of hair behind her ear, smiled, and said, “People like her value their reputation the most. If we really did as I suggested, posted photos of this house everywhere, I doubt anyone would hire her for design anymore.”
Carlene swatted away the dust on her casually; frowning, she said, “Let’s go; I need to change; I have a date with lan tonight.”
Dana was so jealous that her eyes reddened, but all she could do was comply.
After Maja drove off, she was indeed a bit miffed.
She wouldn’t allow anyone to alter her design at will. Although she had encountered some demanding clients before, they all respected her decisions in the end.
Carlene was deliberately causing trouble. In that case, she might as well take this opportunity to hand over this job to someone else.
After all, she only took this job because her studio was about to go under.
Now that the studio was back on its feet, she didn’t need to put up with this.
Maja quickly sorted out her documents, then returned to the hotel, deciding to wait for lan there.
lan didn’t agree to have dinner with Carlene tonight; he declined, citing work as his reason.
Exiting the elevator, Jeff was following behind him.
Jeff was earnestly briefing him on what must be prepared for tomorrow morning’s meeting.
Catching sight of the figure in front of his room, lan paused slightly, a flicker of emotion quickly passing through his eyes.
“Mr. Raymond, that’s all for the meeting; I’ll go first and pick you up tomorrow morning.”
Jeff tactfully returned to the elevator. As the elevator doors closed, he was a bit puzzled. What were these two up to?
lan casually loosened his tie in the corridor, leisurely walking to the door.
“Something you need?”
Maja didn’t expect him to return so soon; she thought she would have to wait a long time.
“Weren’t you supposed to be on a date with Ms. Shepard?”
lan raised an eyebrow and didn’t take out his room card to open the door. Instead, he looked at her.
“Are you questioning me?”
His voice was casual; his eyes carried a hint of indifference.
