Chapter 236 

Fannie couldn’t make out the specific words flashing on the screen, but she vaguely saw it was in a foreign language.. 

“lan, aren’t you gonna answer that?” 

lan picked up his drink, not even batting an eyelash. 

“It’s a spam call.” 

“Oh.” 

Fannie was a bit skeptical, it was clearly a saved contact. But the other bigwigs at the table were busy clinking glasses with lan at the moment. 

“Mr. Raymond, give it a go. This is homemade wine by the chef, the gripes are from the south of Crystalbrook Valley” 

lan took the wine, thanked them, tasted it, and gave a few words of praise 

The atmosphere was great, everyone was discussing the project. Fannie, however, felt that lan seemed a bit more careless than before. He had downed several glasses of wine, loosened up a couple of buttons, and briefly introduced a few new aspects of the project. The bosses didn’t raise any objections and even proposed additional benefits. 

Halfway through the meal, lan got up to use the bathroom in the villa. Since the dining area was on the first floor, so was the bathroom. As he turned in, he noticed the person standing at the bathroom door and raised an eyebrow. 

Maja quickly explained that she wasn’t intentionally waiting there; she was originally at the villa entrance. 

There were servants moving flowerpots at the entrance, and she helped them move them in, allowing her to come in and go to the bathroom 

The restroom here was unisex, so she was standing at the door just as lan was about to enter. 

“Mr. Raymond 

lan didn’t say anything, just quietly looked at her. A few seconds later, he walked past her, went inside, turned on the tap, and slowly washed his hands. Because he was bending over, his wrist was exposed. 

Maja was standing behind him, and seeing his indifference, she hesitated to speak. 

Only after he finished washing his hands and took a paper towel from the side to dry them, did he turn to look at her. 

“Is there something you need?” 

At this point, it was impossible for Maja to back down. “Mr. Raymond, one of the bosses who was drinking with you. My cousin, he has had some conflict with his son. Could you mediate for us in front of him?” 

After Maja finished speaking, she felt a bit uncertain. Because she could feel that, since last night, lan had become much colder. 

“Penny.” Sure enough, he spoke without expression, “What’s our relationship?” 

His voice was low and slow, as he adjusted his grey suit sleeve while speaking. 

“What makes you think I can keep helping you out?” His words clearly indicated that she had overstepped. 

Maja lowered her eyes, feeling somewhat embarrassed. Perhaps because she knew this man was her nominal husband, they had spent one night together, shared three kisses, and she had the illusion that she could ask him for favors. 

But lan’s words snapped her back to reality. 

“I’m sorry, Mr. Raymond, I overstepped.” She smiled and looked him in the eye without flinching “We’re just interior designer and homeowner. I’ve always kept that in mind.” 

lan looked at her face, his expression a bit dull, his mouth set in a straight line. 

Maja felt the chill emanating from him intensify, probably not wanting to see herself, so she obediently backed away 

“It’s getting late, I won’t bother you anymore.” 

With that, she turned and left without hesitation. 

The banquet was still going on, and everyone was a bit tipsy. Fannie felt that after returning from the restroom, lan’s mood seemed to have worsened.
