lan was looking out the window, not showing any excitement.
“Finished with the work on your/end?”
lan and Carlene were forcibly separated by Selena Casson right from the start. Later, lan married Maja and went abroad for three years.
What could really be bothering Carlene? It was just that she had been forcibly separated from lan and felt a bit disgruntled about it.
She thought lan would actively seek her out or flood her with phone calls, but lan was strangely calm about their relationship.
So Carlene was in an awkward spot. Selena might have an issue with her if she took the initiative to return.
If she didn’t come back, there would be no chance with lan.
In fact, lan was trying to hold on to her back then, but not in the way she wanted. She hoped that lan would only love her, fight against the Raymond family for her and even elope with her to give her some satisfaction.

Carlene couldn’t access the high–society circles, but she lived a wealthy life and was spoiled from childhood. After being with lan, many people wanted to befriend her. Everyone thought she would marry lan, and they’d have a lovely love story.
Because of all this, Carlene overvalued herself, always thinking lan would apologize to her.
So when lan tried to hold on to her, she didn’t accept it.
She wanted lan to declare his love for her in front of everyone.
Bút lan didn’t meet her expectations, so Carlene was always unsatisfied until he married.
She was too late to stop him when she learned of his marriage, so she could only wait for lan to come and coax her abroad.
But lan left for three years, rarely contacted anyone, was busy with company affairs, and didn’t see her again.
Now Carlene finally realized she needed to go back, not to let their relationship continue to be cold.
Yes, she always thought she and lan were in a cold war.
They neither was willing to back down.
Their problems were their own, not related to anyone else.
As for the suddenly appeared Mrs. Raymond, she was nothing.
Carlene believed that lan loved her.
She would take the initiative since he wasn’t willing to back down.
“lan, I’m coming back. Aren’t you happy?”
“Of course.”
lan’s tone was indifferent, and he took a sip of the coffee next to him.
Both of them fell silent.
Carlene suddenly found that there seemed to be a gap between them over the years. They hadn’t seen each other.
“So, are you going to pick me up?”
“Yeah.”
Hearing this affirmative answer, Carlene breathed a sigh of relief.
Maybe lan was also upset about her refusal to reconcile; it seemed she needed to sweet–talk him.
“When I come back, I want to meet your wife.”
lan’s thoughts were instantly filled with Tricia’s face, and he frowned slightly.
“Why do you want to see her?”
His tone was even colder than before.
Hearing this, the corners of Carlene’s mouth lifted slightly. It seemed he not only didn’t like that woman, but he had even started
to get annoyed with her.
“She took my place; I ought to see what she looks like; lan, wait for me.”
With that, she hung up the phone.
Carlene’s cheeks turned slightly red, her mouth curled up, and her eyes were full of smiles.
Her last sentence was telling lan that she still had deep feelings for him, always had, and she longed to take that place.
