Maja had always been puzzled by Tricia’s attitude towards her. While they seemed to get along on the surface, Tricia always seemed to take pleasure in ticking her off in front of Neil.
However, if you’d say their relationship was terrible, Tricia would always affectionately call her ‘sister‘ as if they were real siblings. Cristina obviously despised her, but Tricia kept her thoughts well hidden.
Now, Maja finally understood. Tricia could never like her because she had taken the place of lan’s wife.
In hindsight, it all became clear why Tricia was so insistent on going out, even when she wasn’t feeling well.
Only when Maja heard Tricia walking away did she straighten up. She could smell lan’s scent, and the distance between them suddenly seemed very close.

“Maja, the second round of financing was a success. The Raymond family has invested more money. I want to celebrate by inviting lan over for dinner at our house. We should thank them properly.”
-Despite his polite words, he just wanted to continue to cozy up to the Raymond family.
The thought made Maja feel sick but helpless.
“Dad, who let you out of the hospital?“.
“I wanted to leave, Maja. Don’t worry about me.”
Neil’s face was full of relief. The successful financing had brought him great joy.
“The company’s valuation has doubled, and there will be more opportunities for cooperation in the future. Let’s invite lan over the day after tomorrow. We haven’t seen him since he returned home.”
“We’ll see.”
Maja hung up; her brow furrowed deeply.
By now, she had gotten out of the car. She turned to thank lan, but he was focused on some documents, looking calm and composed.
She owed lan so much and didn’t know how to repay him.
“Mr. Raymond, thanks for tonight.”
lan’s lips moved slightly; he gave a light “hmm” and then instructed the driver to start the car.
The driver glanced at him in the rear–view mirror and stepped on the gas.
lan glanced at Maja through the rear–view mirror when the car had driven away.
Apparently sober, she was still standing there, walking towards the hospital alone.
-lan removed the documents from his lap and looked down at his slightly excited body.
Just now, Maja had unintentionally brushed against his sensitive area in her nervousness. Her warm breath seemed to seep through his shirt, feeling as if it was on his chest.
His lips were tightly pressed together, his fingers gripping the documents, and his wrist was tense, looking long and strong.
lan raised his hand; his brow furrowed in irritation.
He wasn’t sure if she had touched him intentionally or accidentally, like a cat’s paw, always able to scratch the itchiest part of his heart.
lan didn’t like this feeling of attaching his emotions to others. He almost rationalized the slight wavering.
He told himself it was probably because of that night, which made him feel attracted.
It was just the hormones playing tricks.
It wasn’t love.
