He pursed his lips and pressed the answer button with his uninjured hand. When he was thinking about how to speak, Holden’s words of comfort came from the other end of the phone. “Ian, you did a great job this time, you’ve really grown up. If you can’t make it tonight, forget it. I won’t blame you this time.”
lan squinted his eyes, puzzled by why he would say something like that.
Every time his grandpa called him before, they always ended up talking about Maja, but tonight, his grandpa didn’t seem to have that plan.
Was it because of the big acquisition deal he just closed?
Grandpa rarely cared about the business, and after he handed over the Raymond Corporation to him, he had been in the hospital for treatment, living a cushy retirement life.
Aside from that acquisition, lan really couldn’t think of anything else he had done that would make grandpa so pleased, so he naturally continued:
“Grandpa, it’s my job, and I’ll keep pushing.”
But to Holden, this sentence meant something else.
He was actually not in a good mood because when he told lan to pick up Maja, lan seemed reluctant and said he had to work overtime.
Was work more important than his granddaughter–in–law?
Holden had been waiting for lan and Maja to arrive so he could formally introduce Maja to everyone else.
