Chapter 118
Maria handed her an ice pack. After an hour of icing, the swelling still throbbed painfully, especially when she tried to slip into her heels- it felt like pinpricks.
Cold sweat drenched her forehead quickly, but she forced herself to continue putting on makeup.
Maria, seeing her like this, couldn’t bear it.
“Ms. Pennyfeather, why don’t I call Holden and have you go another day?”
“I have to go”
The main purpose of this party was to please Grandpa Holden. He had been so good to her, and she had already missed his pickup- she couldn’t disappoint him again on such an important occasion. After finishing her makeup, she put on the bracelet Holden had given her. Other than that, she didn’t wear any other jewelry.
But she was naturally elegant, and with this waist–accentuating dress, the emerald bracelet on her wrist made her look even more charming.
Once she was ready. Maja stopped dawdling and got in the car.
Not long after the car started, she got a call from Neil, asking her to swing by the Pennyfeather family’s old home to pick up Tricia.
Maja frowned, “Why is Tricia going? I thought she wasn’t feeling well.”
*She is sick, but she wants to come when she heard about the party. Holden likes you, he won’t mind if you bring a plus one. Maja, she is your sister after all, she’s been hospitalized for years with little chance to get out, and I’m busy, just let her come with you.”
Maja didn’t have any affections toward Tricia, but agreed anyway.
The car turned towards the Pennyfeather family’s old home, where Tricia was waiting in her dress.
She looked very thin due to her illness, it was heartbreaking to see.
Cnstina didn’t argue with Maja tonight. She probably understood that if she wanted Tricia to have access to that kind of circle, she could only rely on Maja’s help.
She wanted to go too, but she wasn’t willing to lower her dignity to ask Maja, and it was good enough to let Tricia go.
Maybe someone there would fall for Tricia, and this would be a chance to find her a good husband. It wasn’t impossible.
Everyone knew that the Pennyfeather family was in a difficult situation now, and it would be better for Tricia to find a better support than suffering with her in the Pennyfeather family. “Maja, I’m sorry, I was too willful.”
Tricia carefully held Maja’s hand, “You’re not mad, are you?”
Maja had no expression on her face, she said softly, “Get in the car first, or we’ll be late!
Tricia nodded, picked up her skirt, and carefully got in the car,
This was the car Holden left at Rosewood Manor, and it was Maja’s first time riding in it.
It was a limited–edition Bentley, and because they had to go to the old house, it wasn’t suitable to drive her usual car.
The party started promptly at seven–thirty, and the car slowly moved along the road.
Maja and Tricia didn’t have much to say, so they just watched the streets, but what she saw made her frown.
A disheveled man caught her eye. He was young and was eating a hot dog by the roadside.
He was eating fast, as if he had been hungry for a long time.
Maja had a keen eye and recognized the man as her cousin Leo at first glance.
Leo had been missing for several years, he left his parents and wife back home, neglected everything, and owed a mountain of debt. He hadn’t even called home in years.
His parents‘ eyes would turn red every time they mentioned their son. Who would have thought Leo would show up in this big city?
“Stop the car.”
Maja shouted loudly, keeping her eyes on the man, afraid he would run away.
The driver stopped immediately, Maja opened the door and got out, seemingly not feeling the pain in her ankle at all.
“Wait for me.”
She left these words, and walked towards Leo.
