Chapter 20 Luke Got Upset 

Sophie never imagined that she could be transferred to Corporate Banking because Jane asked Ogden to do so. 

As Jane walked out of Ogden’s office, she took out her mobile phone and sent him a WhatsApp 

message. 

Jane texted: [Transfer Caylee to Retail Banking.] 

Ogden was just behind Jane at that moment. Seeing the WhatsApp message she sent, he stared at her back in surprise. 

Ogden texted: [She will become a regular employee in less than a month. Should I transfer her to Retail Banking now?] 

Jane, who had her back to Ogden, rolled her eyes. 

She said inwardly, “Why is this guy so stupid?” 

Her niece made a mistake in front of the chairman of the group and the president of the head office. If she weren’t transferred to Retail Banking to learn, she would be fired. 

Jane got a little annoyed when replying to Ogden. [Yeah. Today!] 

After leaving the Blue Road Branch, Jane and Westley got into Luke’s Rolls–Royce. Luke wanted to hear their opinions after the inspection. 

After talking about the equipment of the business hall, Westley talked about the staffing, 

“OCL Bank has too few employees in grassroots outlets, and even employees with injured feet have to go to work with crutches.” 

Hearing this, Luke frowned a little. 

He really wanted to know what the two executives in front of him thought about Sophie going to work with crutches. 

Jane glanced at Luke’s face. After seeing that Luke had no strange expression, she smiled. 

“I think that employee is kind of dramatic.” 

Seeing that Luke glanced at her as if he wanted to hear her continue, she became bolder and continued. 

“OCL Bank is not so harsh on its employees. If she is injured, she can definitely ask for leave. Since the grassroots outlets are short of staff, we can let staff from the headquarters work there. Maybe it is because she is still an intern and is afraid that asking for leave will affect her regularization. I can understand that she came to work with crutches. but…” 

Luke paused for a moment and fell silent, which made Jane chuckle. 

“Since she needs to walk with crutches, she should stay where she should. There is no need to walk all over the hall with crutches to serve the clients. The clients would think that we are abusing our employees. She is not the only person at Retail Banking.” 

Speaking of this, she deliberately smiled again and then said, “Mr. Shaw, maybe she knows you 

were going there for an inspection, so she came out to act like that. Do you think so?” 

After Westley heard Jane’s half–joking remarks, he frowned. 

Sophie left Westley a good first impression. However, to please the boss, some employees really knew how to act like they were working hard. 

Like Jane, he turned his head to Luke. He also wondered what Luke thought about it. 

As long as Luke wanted to restrain himself, his thoughts and emotions would not be shown on his face, and the two of them would not be able to know what he thought about this. 

Nevertheless, his mood was a little up and down at the moment. 

Luke didn’t plan to marry this woman. He thought she was very scheming, but he didn’t expect that the two executives who didn’t know much about her also had a bad impression of her. 

Jane said that Sophie went to work with crutches on purpose, and what she was really trying to say was that Sophie was scheming. 

And Westley didn’t say anything, which meant he might agree with Jane. 

Luke was very upset that his wife was seen as a scheming woman. 

However, he couldn’t get angry because he thought the same about his wife. 

He didn’t want to show his true feelings to his subordinates. Therefore, he looked out the window coldly. 

Jane saw Luke’s indifferent look and thought that what she said had upset him. He might have forgotten Caylee’s mistakes now and firmly remembered that Sophie was a very scheming woman. Therefore, Jane got kind of smug at that moment. 

In the passenger seat, Jordan heard what Jane said clearly, and he frowned hard. 

He sympathized with Luke and also felt that Luke deserved this. Since he was unwilling to tell people that he was married, he couldn’t do anything when people spoke ill of his wife. 

Although Jordan was brilliant, he would never think Luke agreed with Jane’s words. Luke indeed thought that his wife was a scheming woman. 

During the lunch break, Sophie sent a WhatsApp message to her mother while having lunch. Sophie kept asking her mother about her injuries. 

Her mother replied: [I am having lunch with Sean now. I am totally fine. Lam at work today. Don’t worry about me. 

Sophie knew that her mother would avoid the injury topic, but since her mother could go to work and Sean was with her, Sophie felt relieved. 

Sophie thought it was time to talk to her stepfather and tell him that she actually wanted him to divorce her mother. Sophie didn’t want him to beat her mother anymore. She could persuade her mother to agree to the divorce. 

Sophie looked at her stepfather’s latest post and found he had gone to Suston again. She planned to wait for him to come back and take the initiative to talk to him about the divorce. 

After work in the afternoon, Helen left the counter before Sophie. Just as she walked out the door, 

she came back. 

Helen asked, “Is the commercial vehicle at the door here to pick you up?“. 

Sophie guessed that the car parked at the door should be Linda’s. Then she nodded and said, “Yes.” 

“Wow, Sophie. You never show off in front of us. I didn’t expect that there would be a limousine to take you to and from work.” 

Helen kept shouting. Sophie looked at her, smiled awkwardly, and said, “This is no limousine.” 

Sophie didn’t know much about cars, but she heard from Linda that the vehicle the property management arranged for her was a Mercedes–Benz V–Class MPV, which only cost hundreds of thousands. This car was inexpensive compared to Luke’s Bentleys and Rolls–Royces, which cost millions or even tens of millions, so she thought it was not a limousine. 

Hearing what Sophie said, Helen smiled at her and said, “A Mercedes–Benz V–Class worth 600,000 to 700,000 dollars is not a limousine in your eyes. Seriously? Do you have a Bentley worth a few million dollars?” 

Sophie smiled awkwardly and said, “Stop making fun of me, Helen. I don’t even have an electric car worth several thousand dollars. A friend’s property management owns that car. They provide short–term use of the car to the owner. I live with her, so I enjoy this service.” 

Helen still couldn’t believe this. She asked, “Is your friend your boyfriend?” 

Sophie didn’t expect Helen to have such an assumption. She was surprised and quickly denied, No.” 

In Helen’s eyes, Sophie looked guilty. Helen then asked, “Why don’t you admit that you have a boyfriend? Even if your boyfriend lives in a high–grade residential community that can provide car services, I won’t come and take your boyfriend away from you. What are you afraid of?” 

Saying that, Helen turned around and left. 

Sophie looked at her back and didn’t know what to say. 

Now the news was going to spread. Helen was such a gossipy woman, and she would tell everyone that Sophie had a boyfriend who lived in a high–grade residential community, and even the people in the headquarters would know about this 

Even if the people in the headquarters didn’t know Sophie, an intern, Helen could still tell people how her partner was. 

Sophie sighed helplessly. Then she continued to organize the work materials to be handed over to Caylee tomorrow. 

When Sophie was about to leave, she suggested to Caylee that the handover should be done today, but Caylee, who was in a hurry to go home, disagreed and said they should do the handover the following morning.
